Budapest Ritmo Conference is the biggest world music forum in Central Europe. We have invited professionals to discuss trends and challenges, with a Central European focus. This year’s panels discuss European music policies with EU Commissioner for Culture Tibor Navracsics, and representatives of leading European music organizations like the European Music Council, the European Music Export Exchange Network, Piranha Arts/WOMEX. We’ll also discuss UNESCO’s Music Cities initiative and the issues of music’s role in urban development with representatives of leading cities in the network, Katowice and Mannheim. We’ll continue our tradition to give an opportunity to future European Capitals of Culture to present their plans and exchange views with experts in the field of world music. This year it’s Timisoara 2021’s turn to lead the way and we’ll have representatives from Novi Sad 2021, and Hungarian candidate cities for 2023 also present. We’ll also take a brief look at the Central Asian music market. Along with our Roma focus this year, we’ll certainly have an in-depth discussion on Roma cultural heritage. Take the opportunity to mingle with the movers and shakers of world music, have your say on recent issues or get down to business with international colleagues.
Conference sessions are held in English. The venue of Budapest Ritmo Conference is Akvárium Klub, “Aranyhall”.
The conference is preceded by a showcase event held at Szimpla. Budapest Ritmo supports up and coming bands from the Central European region. On the 4th of October Hungarian and foreign bands selected by an international jury take the stage at iconic ruinbar Szimpla.
