Pun on Punk intended: what Ponk play is unapologetic post-folklore for cimbalom, violin and double-bass. Moravian ballads to outgloom Nick Cave are presented á la Black Sabbath, with Michal Krystýnek’s expressive vocals. Quirky visuals mixed from folk motifs, skulls and C64’s golden era complete the shows – prepare for another twist on tradition projected at Budapest Ritmo. All three musicians have classical folk music training (where the cimbalom was grounding), to swerve towards deliberate non-compliance. The result: Moravian roots through a skillful and boldly subjective filter.
