Amparanoia was born in the heady late 90s, in the vibrant and multicultural Lavapiés neighbourhood of Madrid. It’s 20 years since genre defining El Poder de Machín album came out, which many regard as a milestone of mestizo rock: a non-stop party fused with an ample dose of social critique, where cumbia, flamenco, salsa, ska, dub and punk rock, among others, serve as ingredients. No wonder Manu Chao was there from the beginning and also at the recording of the 2017 edition: he and Sanchez’s son do vocals for almost all of the songs. Amparo, warm-hearted rebel, charismatic diva with a black voice is the core of this musical explosion. At Budapest Ritmo you get mestizo fiesta, revolutionary spirit and the most original female Spanish voice in one from Amparanoia.
