Cesaria Evora lives on in the hearts and minds of people around the world. She only received her deserved place on the world stage in her fifties, after decades of being hidden from the limelight and singing in bars and hotels of her native island. The world then discovered her glowing velvety voice and spirited singing of melancholic morna or upbeat tunes – and came to adore the Barefoot Diva. In the wake of her untimely death, her ex-musicians formed a tribute band to help preserve her memory. Dab hands like So Khaly (piano), Totinho (saxophone), Miroca (percussion), and Zé Paris (bass) are accompanied by the wonderful Lura, Lucibela, Elida Almeida and Teofilo. The excellent musicians pay to virtuoso homage to the Queen of Morna and invoke the gently pulsating rhythms and sweet saudade of Cape Verde.
