The concept of Tárkány Művek was born from the fertile ground of the Hungarian táncház, dance house movement, a grassroots folk dance movement that started in the 1970s. Fusing styles and genres, Tárkány Művek merges jazz, beat and pop music. Their unique sound is created by cimbalom artist Bálint Tárkány-Kovács, who composes their songs and writes their lyrics, as well as their song covers and musical poems. Accompanied by Borbála Fekete and Júlia Viszkeleti (vocals), Máté Hámori (guitar), Márton Fekete (viola), Péter Molnár (double bass), the musical style of Tárkány Művek recalls that of traditional folk string bands, but welcomes the blues and jazz themes of the guitar and the pop folk of the vocals also, making this formation outstanding amongst Hungarian world music bands.
