Cimbalom, the iconic instrument of Hungarian folk music was first created by Vencel József Schunda – an instrument so impressive it made it into the court of emperor Franz Josef and even the Met’s collection. A duo of cimbaloms is in itself a rarity, but Kálmán Balogh and Miklós Lukács elevate the sound of this instrument to a whole new plane. In their improvisations they combine playful jazz, familiar folk melodies, and complex classical compositions. Giants like them playing at the city market will definitely be a once in a lifetime performance.
