Kisgyörgy Ilka is a Transylvanian born singer. She moved to Budapest to study jazz vocals after finishing her Masters degree in Civil ingeneering. Her main musical focus is performing the traditional music of minorities and creating bridges between the neighbouring countries. She is the singer of Taraf de Akácfa, where she performs Romanian gypsy music, also known as lăutărească. In her more recent band, VreMea Válkánia she is in search of the common musicality of the Balkans. She is also a member of the free improvisational and experimental scene in Budapest. Her most recent interest is the nóta repertoir of Hungarian gypsies, a genre that evokes mixed feelings among listeners. As a performer, she believes that one of her main tasks is to help the audience overcome their prejudices about different musical cultures.
