introduction

Ali Doğan Gönültaş sings and plays the tembur and acoustic guitar. He was born in Kiğı, Eastern Anatolia, into a family for whom, as in most Alevi families, music is an essential way of transmitting the history of their people.
Throughout 2023 and 2024, he performed more than 70 concerts across Turkey, Spain, France, Portugal, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, Jordan, and the UK — at benchmark venues such as Fundação Gulbenkian (Lisbon), Urkult Festival (Näskö, Sweden), and Elbphilharmonie (Hamburg).
Before releasing his courageous debut album “Kiğı” (2022), the result of ten years of field research and artistic work advocating for the languages and cultures of silenced minorities in Turkey, such as the Kurds and Armenians, he spent a decade collaborating with the fascinating band Ze Tîje, working in archaeology in Anatolia, composing music for film, and contributing to music-related television programs.
In spring 2024, Ali released his second album, “Keyeyî”.
