The ideal stage for immersing oneself in refined beauty: the Festival Stage at Budapest Ritmo hosts musical journeys, unusual meetings of master musicians and an ample array of cultures. The queen of sevdah, Amira Medunjanin; the acclaimed duo of Vardan Hovanissian and Emre Gültekin; the three folk divas, Ági Szalóki, Mónika Lakatos and Dina Pandzarisz will all perform, not to give a full list of the excellent performers we will get to meet.
There’s a good chance you’ll hear impressive performances at the Showcase Stage: it is dedicated to display up and coming bands from Eastern Europe, who will definitely use this chance to strut their stuff. On Saturday Hungarian musicians handpicked by the Hangvető team will show what they got, on Sunday bands from Eastern Europe selected by experts will play to slay.
The tent stage is where you can really get off at Budapest Ritmo. Expect the same vibe that made WOMEX15 so memorable: an international buzz coupled with bouncy beats: Finnish folk hop /Tuuletar/, rock & kuduro /Throes and the Shine/, club sound & mbira /Kondi Band/ to name just a few of the gigs that will make you move.
Müpa's world-class concert hall with supreme acoustics hosts the grand opening concert of Budapest Ritmo.
The festive opening concert pays tribute to the genius of Béla Bartók, and the endless inspiration of folk music.
A musical journey takes the audience to the time and place of Bartók’s field collections: a world where folk music was present in every moment of daily life, as well as the sacred rites of communities. The concert presents a unique selection of Hungarian and Romanian tunes from Transylvania, Serbian and Slovakian folk treasures, and the Bartók compositions inspired by them.
