Mames Bagenenush mix classic klezmer melancholy and joie de vivre with contemporary sound, and play it with enough élan to rule stages across the world, be it Carnegie Hall, Roskilde, or Amsterdam. They reinvent the genre while staying true to its heritage, adding their spirit and innovation. On their latest album (Mames Babegenush, 2014) the band explores a Scandinavian klezmer sound; a string quartet and a children’s choir offsetting boisterous Eastern-European melodies.
