The restless brain behind Meridian Brothers belongs to multiinstrumentalist Eblis Álvarez, a promethean figure from Bogotá. His experimental mix of latin rock and electronica spread on tapes in the Colombian alternative scene back in ’98. Álvarez rediscovered tropical and Columbian music and formed Meridian Brothers, to continue his psychedelic quest for a distinct Latin sound. Soundway saw the potential and signed the contemporary Zappa and his band, lending them space to experiment with polyrhythms, hammond organ and distorted multilayered samples throbbing to cumbia and salsa. What you hear might at first sound puzzling, then goes on to mesmerize: this is Columbian underground pure and complex.
